Excalibur (formerly known as the Dexter Frebish Electric Roller Ride) was a steel roller coaster in Six Flags AstroWorld.
History[]
The Dexter Frebish Electric Roller Ride (1972-80)[]
When this coaster opened in the Country Fair section of the park 1972, it was named "the Dexter Frebish's Electric Roller Ride", which is probably a unique name for a coaster. There's even a Texas based alternative rock band named after it.
Excalibur (1981-98)[]
Nine seasons later, its section was renamed "Nottingham Village" to fit medieval themes. So the coaster was given a new brownish red paint scheme and renamed Excalibur. This would last for 17 more seasons before it was closed down for good in 1998. The coaster was then taken to Frontier City in Oklahoma City. Unfortunately, it was damaged during the shipping process, so it remained in Frontier City's storage for several years before being ultimately scrapped in 2005. The same year Excalibur died, its home would shut down for good. It's space had been replaced by Serial Thriller.
